Kyle Joseph Fortier, age 33, of Windham, is charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, interfering with an officer, and evading responsibility, Connecticut State Police said.
Fortier was driving along Brandy Street in Bolton when he hit a telephone pole near Hanover Farms Road and spun out around 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1., police said. A woman and Fortier's two children were in the car, but he jumped out and ran away, leaving them behind.
No one was injured.
Fortier was wanted for questioning in an armed robbery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and officers said he is known to carry weapons. Bolton officials issued a stay-in-place order, asking residents to lock their doors and report anything suspicious, authorities said.
Bolton lifted the order around 8:45 p.m. when Fortier was arrested.
A judge ordered Fortier held on a $500,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 4.
